The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) has challenged state residents to eliminate 1 million vehicle miles traveled Oct. 6-19 by using healthy and "green" travel options such as transit or rail travel.

State residents can sign up for the "Oregon Drive Less Challenge" at DriveLessConnect.com. Then, they can log in travel by bus, train, bike, carpool, vanpool, walk, skateboard or carshare trips for work, errands or recreation during the 14-day period starting today, ODOT officials said in a press release.

"Having options for travel is the kind of thing that contributes to the high quality of life we strive for in Oregon, and we want to help Oregonians connect with the many different transportation options available, and maybe try something new," said ODOT Director Matthew Garrett.
