The Federal Transit Administration recently awarded a $5.7 million grant to Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) for the Washington County Commuter Rail project.

The funds will help pay for final engineering, project administration and bridge work. TriMet also plans to use proceeds to build four park-and-ride lots and stations at the Beaverton Transit Center, Scholls Ferry Road/Washington Square in Sherwood, Tigard Transit Center, Tualatin, and Wilsonville at Boberg Road.

To be completed in 2007, the 14.7-mile commuter-rail system will be located within the Interstate 5 and Highway 217 corridor in eastern Washington County. TriMet plans to operate trains every 30 minutes during weekday commute hours on the line.
