PANYNJ completes Jamaica Station lighting upgrade

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) earlier this week completed a $1.2 million lighting upgrade at Jamaica Station in Queens, New York.
The project involved installation of 1,700 LED lights to replace inefficient metal halide and fluorescent fixtures.
The upgrade increased safety and security for riders, and will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 800 ton a year, New York Power Authority (NYPA) officials said in a press release. NYPA was the agency’s partner on the project.
The project was carried out under New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s BuildSmart NY program, a statewide initiative to increase energy efficiency in public buildings.
Jamaica Station provides connections between the MTA Long Island Rail Road, the MTA New York City Transit subway and the AirTrain to John F. Kennedy International Airport.
