The Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) rail system resumed partial round-the-clock operations on Wednesday, marking the return of late-night and early morning service for riders between New York City and New Jersey since Hurricane Sandy damaged the lines last year, N.Y. Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie announced.

Recently, PATH had been operating on a 5 a.m.-to-10 p.m. schedule so crews could perform repairs to critical switching and signal equipment destroyed by the storm's surge of saltwater, which flooded the system.

Restoring PATH service has been a top priority for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ), which oversees PATH. Crews continue to work daily to return service on the Hoboken-to-World Trade Center Line, PANYNJ officials said in a prepared statement.

On Wednesday, PATH resumed service between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. seven days a week from Newark to 33rd Street, via Hoboken. Additional stops now include Harrison, Journal Square, Grove Street and Newport in New Jersey, and Christopher Street, 9th Street, 14th Street and 23rd Street in Manhattan. The line also will operate on weekends from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.
