Pennsylvania’s Transportation Commission July 18 adopted its 2003 Transportation Program outlining more than $34 billion in highway, bridge, transit, aviation and rail freight spending over the next 12 years.

The 12-year program is divided into three four-year segments, the first of which constitutes the state-wide Transportation Improvement Program and covers projects for which funds are identified.

Funds for projects covered in the first four-year block include $7.9 billion for highways and bridges, and $372 million for aviation, as well as $5 billion for transit and $87.7 million for rail freight.

Only selected major projects are generally included in the second and third four-year segments, as well as those for which engineering or right-of-way acquisition is listed in the first four-year block. Reserve amounts for remaining project classes also would be listed.
