The Exposition Construction Authority recently awarded a $542 million contract to Skanska/Rados for the design and construction of the second phase of the Expo Corridor light-rail line in Los Angeles.

Parsons Brinckerhoff will design the project on behalf of the Skanska/Rados design-build team, according to a Parsons Brinckerhoff press release.

To open in 2012, the Expo Line’s first phase would extend 8.5 miles from downtown L.A. to Culver  City, Calif., and include 10 stations. The second phase, which would extend the line 6.6 miles from Culver City to Santa Monica, Calif., is expected to open in 2015.

The 14-mile Expo Line could average up to 64,000 riders daily by 2030, Parsons Brinckerhoff officials said. The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority will fund the $1.5 billion project and own the Expo Line when it’s completed.
