Parsons recently was awarded a $36.5 million contract to provide final design and construction management engineering services for Charlotte, N.C.’s South Corridor light-rail project.
The city’s first major rapid-transit system, South Corridor would run 9.6 miles from uptown Charlotte to Interstate 485. Final design work is expected to start this summer and conclude in three years.
The system includes a I-485 station with a 1,200-car parking garage; two miles of shared track with Charlotte Trolley, enabling joint use of the alignment so the trolley can alternate with the light-rail vehicles to provide non-rush hour service; and a partitioned corridor through the Charlotte Convention Center.
The $371 million project is scheduled to open in mid-2006.
