Phoenix's Valley Metro advances expansion plans

On Monday, the Mesa, Ariz., city council approved locations for four stations to be built as part of Valley Metro’s Metro light-rail extension project.
The light-rail system, which connects Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa, would be extended into central Mesa.
In addition, Valley Metro has conducted a transit study to determine a better way to connect south Tempe and Chandler with the light-rail starter line.
The two most feasible options are a modern streetcar project on Mill Avenue from downtown Tempe to Southern Avenue and bus rapid transit system on Rural Road from University Drive to Chandler Boulevard, Valley Metro officials said in a prepared statement.
Both options will be considered during public meetings to be held next week.
