Pigskin-themed train station clinches Cleveland development award

Downtown Cleveland Partnership presented Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) with a Downtown Development Award for its West Third Street Station.

The $4.4 million station, which opened Aug. 31, 1999 and boasts 3,900 feet of interior space, primarily serves fans attending football games at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

Reflecting a gridiron motif, the floor mimics a football field complete with yard lines. Glass walls are etched with Browns legends including Paul Brown and Jim Brown. The three-story station’s 660-foot special-event ramp accommodates crowds leaving Browns games and other stadium events.

The Development Award, created last year, was designed to recognize local projects that significantly contribute to downtown Cleveland’s revitalization.

Five awards were presented this year.
