This month, the Port Authority of Allegheny County plans to begin testing the first T cars along a new 1.2-mile light-rail extension, authority officials announced in a post on the agency’s website.
Testing is scheduled to last several months. Set to open in spring 2012, the Connector will extend the existing 25-mile T system to the North Shore from downtown Pittsburgh, Station Square and the South Hills.
The Connector will support “the economic vision that community leaders have long had for the region,” port authority officials said. The T line will expand access to downtown, as well as enhance ongoing revitalization on the North Shore area of Pittsburgh, where more than $2 billion in development projects have been completed, they said.
