RIDE 21, Amtrak reauthorization markup put on hold

The full U.S. House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure planned May 22 to markup Railroad Infrastructure Development and Expansion Act for the 21st Century (RIDE 21) (H.R. 2950), and Amtrak Reauthorization Act of 2002 (H.R. 4545), but consideration of both items has been postponed until further notice.

RIDE 21 would provide capital funds for passenger and freight railroad infrastructure improvement projects, and H.R. 4545 would reauthorize Amtrak for one year, granting the railroad the $1.2 billion it requested for FY03, plus an additional $775 million for life-safety and security programs.
