The Regional Transportation District of Denver announced this week it will permanently discontinue its C and F light-rail lines starting Jan. 8, 2023.

The changes are part of the transit agency's system optimization plan, which prioritizes a regionally focused transit network that delivers community connectivity, RTD officials said in a press release.

"These changes are being made in addition to schedule adjustments for a number of lines and routes to increase on-time performance and operational reliability," RTD officials said.

The C Line ran from Union Station in Denver to Littleton; he F Line ran from downtown Denver to Lone Tree, Colorado, reported The Denver Post.

Service on both lines has been suspended since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020.

RTD officials are considering running limited service on the routes for special events, the Post reported.
