The Regional Transportation District of Denver (RTD) earlier this week received word that the agency can expect to receive $203,367,528 through the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 (CRRSAA).

The Federal Transit Administration announced the federal funding as part of the $14 billion to be allocated to public transit systems to help offset their COVID-19 pandemic-related costs.

RTD is the urbanized area dedicated recipient of the funding, which encompasses about $190.9 million apportioned for the Denver-Aurora area and $12.5 million for the Boulder area, RTD officials said in a press release.

The funds can be used for staffing and any other costs associated with operating transit service during the pandemic, RTD officials said.

"The leadership team and I will continue assessing ... how this funding will best support our transit service delivery,” RTD General Manager and Chief Executive Officer Debra Johnson said.

RTD has reduced its workforce by about 300 people due to economic challenges brought on by the pandemic.
