Elected officials, passenger rail planners and community activists plan to join forces with business leaders, and development and financial experts at Rail-Volution 2002, scheduled to be held Oct. 3-6 in Washington, D.C.
The group’s focus, "Building Livable Communities with Transit," will be further refined this year to stressing the need for increased investments to and in communities, which takes on greater significance with the reauthorization of TEA-21 due next year.
As part of the kick-off events, lawmakers and transportation leaders plan to gather at Washington Union Station Oct. 3 to discuss how transit keeps communities moving, release a new report on public transit in America written by the New Starts Working Group and Amalgamated Transit Union, and unveil the Diesel Multiple Unit car developed by Colorado Railcar.
Additional information regarding the conference can be found at the Rail-Volution Web site, www.railvolution.com.
