Raleigh council recommends light-rail route

The City Council of Raleigh, N.C., recently endorsed a light-rail route on the west side of the city’s downtown, city officials said in a prepared statement.
Triangle Transit has proposed a $1.43 billion, 18-mile regional light-rail system. The council-approved route, which would use portions of Morgan and Harrington streets, is the “least expensive and least intrusive that is capable of attracting riders and spurring economic development,” city officials said.
Earlier this month, representatives from Triangle Transit, the city and a Passenger Rail Task Force attended a workshop to discuss the proposed routes. The transit agency has recorded public input at three workshops held during the past year.
