The Reading & Northern Railroad (R&N) will start running passenger trains Aug. 14 under its Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway banner in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania.

The trains will depart from the Jim Thorpe station on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Riders are required to wear a mask on board trains, and extra rail cars will be added to the schedule to allow physical distancing between riders, railroad officials said in a press release.

To mark the return of passenger service to Jim Thorpe, R&N is bringing out its 425 steam locomotive on opening weekend.

Meanwhile, R&N also announced it accelerate its $10,000 donation to the town of Tamaqua to distribute to local charities.

The donation is part of R&N Owner and Chief Executive Officer Andy Muller Jr.’s plan to donate $10,000 per year over the next two years to Tamaqua for charities of the town's choice.
