Ridership records continue to crumble at WMATA
advertisement
Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) continues its record-breaking year, logging seven of the agency’s top 10 ridership days in 2000.
On Oct. 16, the day of the Million Family March, WMATA recorded 688,467 passenger trips — third-highest in the agency’s history.
President Clinton’s January 1993 inauguration still holds the ridership top spot with 811,257 trips; the Million Man March of 1995 remains in second place.
However, five of the remaining top-10 ridership days were recorded in July 2000, including July 12 and 27 — days without special events planned in the nation’s capitol. April 19, 2000, holds the seventh position, when a Washington Capitols Hockey game assisted ridership numbers.
And, rounding out the top 10, WMATA logged 637,305 passenger trips April 8, 1999, without the aid of a special event.
