Since April 16, Russian Railways subsidiary Federal Passenger Co. has been providing additional passenger cars on international routes in response to the dust cloud from volcanic eruptions in Iceland and the associated closure of European airspace.

The railroad is adding cars to trains traveling from Moscow to Helsinki, Warsaw and Prague, as well as from St. Petersburg to Helsinki. Between one and three cars have been added to each train.

Between April 16 and 18, the railroad transported 10,000 passengers from Russia to Europe and back.
