The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (SCVTA) yesterday issued the first of four request for industry feedbacks (RFIF) to gauge contractor interest and gather feedback on the scope of the contracts to be awarded for the SCVTA’s BART Silicon Valley Phase II extension project.

The contractors and subcontractors ultimately awarded these contracts will complete the design and collectively build the six-mile, four-station extension of the regional Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system into downtown San Jose and Santa Clara, California.

Issuing RFIF’s enables SCVTA officials to hear directly from the construction industry leaders on how best to structure the contracts to deliver a project of this complexity, SCVTA officials said in a press release.

The first RFIF pertains to a single-bore tunnel and track work. The others will cover systems, including tunnel lighting, communications and train control; stations, including utilities, parking garages and ventilation shafts for underground stations; and construction of the Newhall maintenance and storage yard and the Santa Clara Station.

The second RFIF planned for release is the systems contract at the end of this month, with the other two contract RFIFs slated for release later this year, SCVTA officials said.

The Phase II project is in the design, engineering and contract procurement development phase. Early construction activities are planned to begin in 2022 with substantial construction completed by 2028.
