The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) and Fraternal Order of Transit Police (FOP) Lodge 109 recently reached a tentative agreement on a new contract for transit police officers.
The agreement ended a strike by SEPTA police that began Dec. 13. The officers returned to work on Dec. 16.
"Negotiators for both SEPTA and the FOP have been working around the clock, as have our police supervisors who [had] been covering patrols [during the strike]," said SEPTA CEO and General Manager Leslie Richards in a press release.
The tentative agreement now will be presented to both FOP members and SEPTA's board for approval.
"This tentative agreement is fair to our hard-working police officers and is financially responsible for SEPTA," said SEPTA Chairman Pasquale Deon Sr. "We greatly appreciate the efforts of our police supervisors to cover patrols and keep the system ... as well as the assistance we received from our law enforcement partners."
