SFMTA to raise price of Muni passes, parking fees

On July 1, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) plans to increase Municipal Railway (Muni) fares, parking fees and fines.

Fare increases of $1 to $2 will affect monthly passes, cable car cash fares and special event fares. The base fare evasion violation will increase from $75 to $100, and the cost of a residential parking permit will increase by $2, SFMTA officials said in a prepared statement.

The price hikes were among the “tough choices” necessary to ensure the agency’s financial stability, they said.

“By taking proactive measures such as creating the agency’s first financial reserve, identifying internal efficiencies and implementing moderate increases, we can … plan for fiscal sustainability,” said SFMTA Chairman Tom Nolan.
