The Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) last week held a groundbreaking ceremony for a light-rail modernization project.

The event marked the start of construction for a passing track near Glenn/Robert G. Holderness Station for the Folsom 15-minute light-rail service. Currently, train rides between the Hazel, Iron Point, Glenn/Robert G. Holderness and Historic Folsom stations takes about 30 minutes.

Starting in January 2024, construction will require a temporary light-rail service disruption between the Historic Folsom and Iron Point stations.

Construction is expected to take about six months to complete, according to a SacRT press release.
