The California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) awarded the Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) two grants to help fund light-rail system improvements.

The Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program (TIRCP) grants include $23.6 million to purchase eight light-rail vehicles, and $3.9 million to construct a new light-rail access tunnel on the north side of the multimodal Sacramento Valley Station (SVS) Transit Center.

The new SVS access route will connect the transit center to the future Railyards Plaza transit-oriented development.

Last week, the agency was awarded $150 million in TIRCP funding for the purchase of 20 low-floor light-rail vehicles from Siemens Mobility.
