Sacramento transit district nears completion of Blue Line light-rail extension

The Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) expects to open its Blue Line light-rail extension to Cosumnes River College on Aug. 24, agency officials announced on Monday.

The 4.3-mile project, which runs from the line's current terminus at Meadowview Road to the college in Sacramento, Calif., is ahead of schedule and under budget, SacRT officials said.

The Blue Line extension to the college was originally slated to open in September, coinciding with the start of the fall semester.

The extension includes more than 2,700 park-and-ride spaces, two pedestrian bridges and a bus/light-rail transit center at CRC. An additional station at Morrison Creek in south Sacramento is expected to open in 2017 following future development in that area, agency officials said.
