At San Mateo County Transportation Authority's (SamTrans) Jan. 9 meeting, San Mateo County Supervisor Mark Church was elected board chairman and San Mateo Councilman John Lee, vice chairman. Michael Guigona, Joe Galligan and Ira Ruskin won new terms as board members.
"We will have our work cut out for us because of declining sales-tax dollars," said Church in a prepared statement. "Nonetheless, in the upcoming years, we still expect to initiate several critical transportation projects, such as improving street and highways, and upgrading Caltrain."
SamTrans administers funds derived from the county's half-cent sales tax, which are used for such projects as grade separating Caltrain's corridor.
