Last week, former New Jersey Attorney General David Samson was elected the 18th chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. He was nominated by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and confirmed by the state Senate on Jan. 25. Samson succeeds Anthony Coscia, who served as chairman since April 2003. In June 2010, Coscia was appointed to Amtrak's board.
Samson served as New Jersey's attorney general from 2002 to 2003. In 2009, he was counsel to the Christie’s gubernatorial election campaign. He also has acted as a court-appointed labor union trustee, a civil litigation discovery master and a federal monitor pursuant to a U.S. Department of Justice deferred prosecution agreement, and is a founding member of law firm Wolf & Samson.
"We will continue to address the region's major transportation needs, including Bayonne Bridge modernization, and to drive economic competitiveness and job creation in the port region with a commitment to fiscal responsibility," Samson said in a prepared statement.
