San Francisco agency plans new fare kiosks

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Authority (SFMTA), which oversees the Municipal Railway (Muni), plans to open a new Muni sales facility on Dec. 27.

Through an $829,000 project, which was paid for by grants, the agency plans to create two new sales kiosks. The second kiosk — to be installed in mid-January — will replace the current one at a cable-car turnaround.

The first kiosk located on Geary Boulevard at Presidio Avenue will improve customer service by providing an additional sales outlet for Clipper cards, Lifeline passes and other Muni fare media, said Nathaniel Ford Sr., SFMTA executive director and chief executive officer, in a prepared statement.

The two, 11-foot, 121-square-foot stainless steel will feature panels that depict images of San Francisco’s cable cars. The SFMTA and Lundberg Design worked with the San Francisco Arts commission on a final design for the kiosks.
