Yesterday, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) unveiled new fare gates and ticket vending machines for stations that will replace a 30-year-old fare collection system. The equipment is expected to enter service next month.
The $30.1 million equipment replacement project was funded through a variety of federal, state and regional sources, including $11 million in federal stimulus funds, SFMTA officials said in a prepared statement.
The new equipment includes 81 standard fare gates, 19 handicap-accessible fare gates and 40 ticket vending machines.
