The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority’s (VTA) board has authorized a $7.3 million contract with Con Quest Constructors Inc. to complete Agua Fria, Toroges and Agua Caliente creek improvements, which are part of the preparation work for the Bay Area Rapid Transit Silicon Valley’s Berryessa Extension in California.
The contract will be funded by 2000 Measure A, the city of Fremont and Alameda County Flood District.
The creek work includes constructing precast concrete box culverts, widening an existing Union Pacific Railroad bridge, installing storm drain pipe and building a retaining wall along the UP right of way to accommodate relocating freight operations. Construction is slated to begin in June and be completed in June 2012.
“The construction of these creek improvements ensure that structural improvements related to the project are protected as well as the ecosystem,” said VTA Chairwoman Margaret Abe-Koga in a prepared statement.
