Senate, House approve transportation appropriations
advertisement
On Oct. 6, the Senate and House passed Fiscal-Year 2001 Transportation and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, which provides for $58.5 billion in transportation programs.
Along with provisions for other modes of transportation, the Act includes a measure enabling the Department of Transportation to proceed with all rulemaking stages, short of a final rule regarding the maximum hours drivers of instate trucks and buses may spend behind the wheel.
The legislation also provides Amtrak with $521 million in capital grants — the amount Amtrak Chairman and Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson requested in his March 9 address to Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation and Related Agencies, Subcommittee on Surface Transportation.
