Senate proposes funds for Charlotte transit system's light-rail extension
advertisement
Last week, the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) announced the U.S. Senate’s transportation appropriations legislation includes $24 million for the LYNX Blue Line extension’s next phase of planning, engineering and design. Senate and House committees will determine final appropriations to be included in the legislation.
About 15 percent of engineering and design work is completed for the light-rail extension, which would run from Ninth Street in Center City, N.C., to Interstate 485 in northeastern Mecklenburg County. In April, the Metropolitan Transit Commission approved CATS’ plan to advance design to the 30 percent-complete level.
