Last week, Hampton Roads Transit’s (HRT) board appointed Philip Shucet president and chief executive officer to succeed Michael Townes, who retired earlier this month after leading an effort to develop The Tide — Virginia’s first light-rail line — in Norfolk.

Shucet most recently was commissioner of the Virginia Department of Transportation, a position he held since 2001. He previously served the West Virginia Department of Highways and Arizona Department of Transportation in various capacities.
