Siemens brings communication platform to Belgian railway

advertisement

During the next four years, Siemens Information and Communication Mobile plans to install a GSM-Railway (GSM-R) network along 1,800 track miles for the Belgian National Rail Co.

The nationwide GSM-R rollout would cover the railroad’s entire network infrastructure, including terminals. GSM-R enables a single international standard for train communication and creates interoperability between rail companies. Increased data transmission is expected to increase rail safety.

The contract represents Siemen’s seventh GSM-R installation in Europe.

European railroads currently use more than 40 different radio systems for voice and communications data. GSM-R would integrate the voice and data applications for railway radio into a single system.

Railroadss plan to use the application for communications between chief conductors, control centers, shunting and trackside maintenance teams, and train control and signaling.
