Sao Paulo, Brazil’s Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM) received in August the first of 10 four-car, electric multiple-unit (EMU) trains from Siemens AG’s Transportation Systems Group.

The stainless steel trains comprise two motor cars and two trailer cars; two EMUs may be coupled for double-heading. Each 262.5-foot unit can accommodate 900 passengers at more than 50 mph.

The first train completed static commissioning work and acceptance testing at the Maribor, Slovenia, production facility.

CPTM plans to conduct dynamic testing until trains enter revenue service in March 2001. The last EMU train is scheduled for delivery in May 2001.
