Ridership on Nashville's Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) bus and train services, including its Music City Star train, has increased significantly as a result of rising gas prices.
Ridership on the Music City Star jumped 19 percent in January compared with January 2010. And on Feb. 19, the Star broke a single-day ridership record with 1,339 passenger trips.
"With the recent rise in gas prices, more people are seeking other alternatives to driving their cars, and they are quickly realizing how affordable and convenient public transit can be," said RTA Chief Executive Officer Paul Ballard in a prepared statement.
