Sound Transit, BNSF close to completing trackwork
advertisement
Later this month, Sound Transit and BNSF Railway Co. expect to complete track and signal improvements between Seattle and Tacoma, Wash.
Launched in 2000, the $350 million project included upgrades to nearly every crossing along the 40-mile corridor, as well as the addition of nine high-speed crossovers, which will enable Sounder commuter-rail trains to pass freight trains. In addition, the railroads replaced the signal system with a Centralized Traffic Control system.
The improvements will reduce train delays and enable Sound Transit to add two daily trains between Seattle and Tacoma to meet growing ridership demand.
