Sound Transit's board recently implemented a sustainability plan for the agency.
The plan outlines ways to implement and fund sustainability efforts in planning, designing, constructing and operating transit services and facilities, Sound Transit officials said in a prepared statement. The plan also establishes long-term priorities as the agency carries out transit projects.
“Sustainability is a key guiding principal to improve our region’s quality of life as communities, the natural environment and the economy are challenged by diminishing natural resources and the impact of global climate change,” Sound Transit officials said.
The agency is committed to making sustainability a “core factor” in everyday operating decisions, said Sound Transit Chairman Aaron Reardon.
