Sound Transit today will kick off early scoping meetings for its Tacoma Dome Link light-rail extension.

The open house-style meetings will allow residents to comment on route and station locations for the project, as well as the location for a new operations and maintenance facility.

Early scoping marks the first step in the environmental process for the Tacoma Dome project, which will extend light rail from Tacoma to Federal Way, Washington, by 2030.

The first meeting will take place tonight, with another scheduled tomorrow. The final meeting will be April 24.

Through mid-2019, Sound Transit staff will work with the public and stakeholders to help identify a preferred alternative for the Tacoma Dome project, Sound Transit officials said in a press release.

The 9.7-mile Tacoma Dome extension will run on elevated and at-grade light rail from the Federal Way Transit Center to the Tacoma Dome. The project includes a new rail-only fixed span across the Puyallup River, as well as four new stations.
