Seattle’s Sound Transit plans to break ground today on a project at the Edmonds Sounder station, which is adjacent to the Amtrak station on the Edmonds waterfront.

To be completed in spring 2011, the project includes a new east platform with a larger passenger loading area and weather-protected passenger shelters, Sound Transit Chief Executive Officer Joni Earl said in her recent "CEO Report." In addition, the parking area will be updated, including lighting, repaving and a new drainage system. Platform lighting also will be updated.

Earl also reported that the initial seven of 27 University Link light-rail car shells are expected to be delivered soon to the Port of Tacoma. The first two shells are expected to be delivered by week's end and all car shells are scheduled to arrive by February. The University Link line, which will connect downtown Seattle to the University of Washington, is slated to enter passenger service in 2016, Earl said.
