Sound Transit completes supplemental EIS for East Link project

Sound Transit now is accepting public comments on the latest environmental studies for East Link, a light-rail line that would run between Seattle and Overlake Transit Center in Redmond, Wash.

In partnership with the Federal Transit Administration and Washington State Department of Transportation, Sound Transit has prepared a Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) that includes new alternatives and design modifications for the project. The additional information was added in response to comments received on the 2008 Draft EIS, discussions with partner agencies and community members, and recommendations from Sound Transit’s board.

In mid-2011, Sound Transit expects to develop a Final EIS that will outline the preferred alternative for the project, as well as proposed mitigation measures. The board then will make a final decision on the line’s route, as well as station and maintenance facility locations.
