Yesterday, Sound Transit’s board identified potential station locations for staff to study as part of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the system’s Lynwood light-rail expansion.

The DEIS will examine impacts and benefits associated with building stations at seven locations along Interstate 5 as part of the light-rail extension between Northgate and the Lynwood Transit Center, Sound Transit officials said in a prepared statement.

Slated for completion in spring 2013, the DEIS also will analyze the impacts associated with the alignment along the I-5 corridor. Other areas of study will include alignment, profile and station design issues.

Last month, Sound Transit completed the latest phase of public outreach, which included ongoing consultation with local governments.

The project is part of the Sound Transit Two extensions to the north, east and south, which voters approved in 2008. The so-called North Corridor line is scheduled to open in 2023.

Recent analysis estimates the North Corridor light-rail line will carry 52,000 riders daily by 2030, and take about 14 minutes to travel between Lynnwood and Northgate. The line will feature four stations. The project is estimated at $1.4 billion to $1.6 billion, and Sound Transit officials believe the project will be “very competitive” for federal funding, they said.
