Sound Transit more than 'gets by' with a little help from its friends

Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority (Sound Transit) March 12 plans to begin Sounder commuter rail service to Tukwila Station — more than six months ahead of schedule — thanks, in part, to The Boeing Co., and the cities of Tukwila and Renton, Wash.
Boeing offered Sound Transit temporary free use of its Longacres property for 250-car parking; the cities and agency worked together to expedite permits and planning.
The temporary station will be fully operational, right down to the installed ticket vending machines.
And, with Tukwila Station’s opening, Sounder’s full complement of seven stations between Tacoma and Seattle will be complete. By 2003, Sound Transit plans to extend service north to Everett, Edmonds and Mukliteo, Wash., and south of Tacoma to Lakewood, Wash.
