Sound Transit names interim commuter rail director

Sound Transit Aug. 3 named David Beal interim director of the Sounder commuter rail project, succeeding Paul Price who resigned.
"David has been with Sound Transit from the beginning and has worked closely with Paul Price," said Executive Director Joni Earl in a prepared statement. "I am confident the transition will be smooth and David will continue Sounder’s record of success led by Paul."
Beal brings 20 years’ transportation experience to his new post, starting with Chicago’s Northeast Illinois Regional Commuter Railroad Corp. (Metra), then with Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority, which became Sound Transit four years ago. He currently serves Sound Transit as program manager of project development for Sounder commuter rail.
During his Sound Transit tenure, Beal negotiated the Amtrak rail-car maintenance contract, managed the downtown Seattle Sounder station project, and supported the director in staff and budgetary management.
Beal will assume leadership of Sound Transit’s commuter rail service Sept. 4.
"We are looking forward to building the remainder of the Sounder line up to Everett and south to Lakewood, bringing all 83 miles into service with 30 trains a day, which is what voters approved in Sound Move," said Beal.
