Sound Transit puts its gas-line relocation ducks in a row

The Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority (Sound Transit) board March 22 authorized an agreement with Puget Sound Energy for natural gas utility line relocation costs related to Link light rail construction.
Under agreement terms, Sound Transit will reimburse Puget Sound Energy for 55 percent of relocation costs on a time and materials basis, up to $1.75 million. Terms may be renegotiated if the transit agency agrees to more favorable terms with another private utility.
The agreement also establishes a Joint Technical Committee, through which Sound Transit and Puget Sound Energy representatives will coordinate the work and address implementation issues.
In order to construct Link light rail, several natural gas lines in Tacoma, Tukwila and SeaTac, Wash., will need to be relocated.
