Sound Transit schedules open house for Tacoma Link extension

Sound Transit will hold an open house Wednesday on the proposed Tacoma Link light-rail expansion project.

Participants will be able to view preliminary designs for the preferred alignment and station locations of the project, which will expand the existing 1.6-mile system to the North Downtown, Hilltop and Stadium districts, Sound Transit officials said in a press release.

In addition to Wednesday's meeting, the agency will hold an online open house until July 27 on the project's website.

Funded in part by revenue from the voter-approved Sound Transit 2 ballot measure, the proposed extension calls for adding 2.4 miles and six stations to the line. The project also received financial backing from the Federal Transit Administration and a partnership with the city of Tacoma, Wash.

Sound Transit's board identified a preferred alignment for the project in February 2014.
