Sound Transit yesterday suspended almost all construction activities related to the agency’s transit-rail expansion projects due to COVID-19 risks.

The suspensions will be in place until May 4, according to the agency's construction alert newsletter.

Some limited, critical work will continue under the suspension, including light-rail construction on the Homer M. Hadley floating bridge; utility work; building demolitions along the Federal Way alignment; and work on a light-rail operations and maintenance facility.

Crews will work under expanded safety measures that include additional training, reduced crew size and enhanced sanitation.

Sound Transit will boost site oversight by reallocating safety inspection and construction management resources from projects that have been suspended.
