Sound Transit yesterday launched a public comment period for its proposed Everett Link Extension project that would extend light-rail service north from the City Center Station in Lynnwood to the station in Everett, Washington.

The agency's board will consider the public feedback when considering alternatives to be studied as part of the project's environmental review, Sound Transit officials said in a press release.

The project calls for the construction of 16 miles of light rail and six new stations. A seventh provisional station also will be studied. The project also calls for construction of the Operations and Maintenance Facility North, which is needed to support operations, Sound Transit officials said.

The facility is scheduled to open in 2034, while the extension is scheduled to open in 2037. However, Sound Transit is short $500 million of its funding goal, and the extension’s opening could be delayed years if the transit agency doesn’t make up the gap, officials said.

Sound Transit is accepting comments online and through email, phone and public meetings. More information can be found on the agency’s website.
