Sound Transit taps Absher Construction Co. to build Northgate Station

Sound Transit's board late last week awarded a $174 million contract to Absher Construction Co. to build an elevated station, guideway and parking garage for the Northgate Link light-rail extension.

Located in Seattle's Northgate district, the station will serve as the northern terminus for light rail until the Lynnwood Link extension opens in 2023.

Station construction is expected to wrap up in 2020, with service on the Northgate Link extension slated to begin in 2021.

The $1.9 billion Northgate Link project is a 4.3-mile light-rail extension that runs north from the University of Washington to a station next to the King County Northgate Transit Center. The route also includes two underground stations.
