Sound Transit tomorrow will solicit community input at an open house to discuss the next steps for the Tacoma Link expansion project.

Residents also can participate in the event online, agency officials said in a press release.

The project calls for extending the light-rail line in Tacoma, Wash., by 2.4 miles. The extension includes seven new stations, five new light-rail vehicles and an expansion to an existing operations and maintenance facility.

The project's design is 60 percent completed, with construction scheduled to begin in 2018.

The existing Tacoma Link line runs 1.6 miles between the Theater District and the Tacoma Dome Station. Voters in 2008 approved the Sound Transit 2 ballot measure, which included funding to explore options for extending the line.
