A two-block section of Pacific Avenue in Tacoma, Wash., will close Wednesday for the next 11 months so construction crews can begin the next phase of Sound Transit’s D-to-M Streets Sounder track and signal project.
Construction of the final 1.4-mile segment will extend Sounder commuter-rail service to Lakewood, Wash., starting in 2012, Sound Transit officials said in a prepared statement.
The project includes bringing streets to new grades, constructing a rail bridge over Pacific Avenue, installing new crossing gates and other safety equipment, and landscaping the area.
